The main economic activity of inhabitants of Elak council is peasant farming. More than 90% of the population is involved in this activity. Solanium potatoes (also known as irish potatoes) is produced in large quantities and sold mainly in Bamenda and beyond. There is also the Oku white honey that has gained international certification. There are small traders involved in retail trade. Other economic operators include small scale transporters and commercial motorcycle riders commonly known here as ‘achaba’ riders.
